The Bersntol Alta Valsugana mining park was opened in December 2016 by Mauro and Gabriele Stulzer, who had already set up the Vignola Mining Museum. Their idea was to put all the existing museums and mining sites in the area online. Alta Valsugana has a rich geological history and it is the area with the highest concentration of mining sites in the entire Alpine region. Mining in the valley dates back to prehistoric times.
A number of archaeological sites open to the public are in Redebus, Montesei di Serso and Dos del Puster and represent some of the oldest examples of mining activity. .
Although minerals still live and continue to evolve, mining now belongs to the past. However, what remains is a powerful and fertile heritage, something leads the valley towards a future of continuous cooperation and dialogue between institutions, and therefore provides also a future for young people, creating new job opportunities and protecting existing ones.
Currently the park includes the towns of Roncegno, Calceranica, Pergine, Civezzano, Vignola Falesina, Altopiano della Vigolana, Altopiano di Pinè and Val di Cembra, and the Valle dei Mocheni.
The project is coordinated and financed by the "Comunità di Valle Alta Valsugana e Bersntol", in collaboration with the Tourist Office (APT) of Valsugana and Cembra, the "Consorzio della Vigolana" and the associations of citizens "Proloco della Val dei Mocheni "and" Proloco Pergine ".
There is a plan to apply to the UNESCO for recognition as one of the European mining geoparks involving also other museums.
We believe that 'the future grows in the present but has its roots in the past' transforming memories into beautiful things. By promoting and coordinating the activities of individual museums and mining sites, we aim to support a "moving" and eco-sustainable geo-tourism. To this end we have mapped a series paths and cycle routes, creating a network of tour operators for the promotion of traditional cuisine, wine and local products, and organizing practical workshops and courses for tourist, alpine and sports guides. We are creating a hub for museums in the Canopi building in Pergine and equipping existing museums with cutting-edge audio and video installations
